U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told Russian President Vladimir Putin that the U.S. and Russia share common interests in Syria, and that the two countries ought to work more closely to help end the bloodshed in the Arab country that has killed more than 70,000 people.

Three women who went separately about a decade ago, when they were teenagers or early 20s, had been tied up but were found alive on Monday in a residential area just south of downtown Cleveland.Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight likely had been tied up during years of captivity, said police, who arrested three brothers, police said.

Grammy Award winning singer Lauryn Hill was sentenced to three months in prison on Monday, and an additional three months in home confinement for failing to pay taxes on about $1 million in earnings.
