The Law Society of Southern Australia has protested government budget cuts and asked for more federal funding, saying that reduced public legal services can lead to criminality. At the same time, it is advocating other measures to drum up economic support for the embattled legal market.

The Ministry of Justice has revealed that in the last five years, a large number of judges and magistrates have been pestered by death threats over decisions on cases they have handled.
