Nine American citizens were arrested who are among the 33 suspected terrorists by the Saudi Authorities. Four Americans were captured last Monday, while the other five were arrested over the previous weeks, reported on Sunday.
According to Yahoo News, a US State Department official said they are already aware of the reports alleging that several US citizens were detained in Saudi Arabia. "The Department of State takes its obligation to assist US citizens abroad seriously. Due to privacy considerations, we have no further comment," it said.
Among the arrested foreigners are 14 Saudis, three Yemenis, two Syrians, an Indonesian, a Filipino, an Emirati, a Kazakhstan national and a Palestinian national. Authorities did not mention that the arrested terror suspects have connection with the Islamic State jihadist group.
The Shiite mosque in Eastern Province was attacked on Friday, killing four people and 36 injured when one of the suicide bombers blew himself up while his accomplice opened fire. The Government of Saudi Arabia is offering a reward of SR7 million for citizens who will help to prevent terrorist attacks, Eurasia Review reported. The ministry spokesman, Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki made the bounty announcement on a press conference in Riyadh two days after the Al-Ridha Mosque attack in Al-Ahsa province. A SR1 mikkuib is also offered for those citizens who will give information regarding the terrorists' whereabouts.
The interior ministry said they were also searching for the nine suspects allegedly involved in an August suicide bombing that targeted a mosque inside a police headquarters, killing 15 people. IS had claimed they were behind the attack in the southern city of Abha. The ministry also said in a statement that three other suspects, including a member of the kingdom's special forces, had been arrested in connection with the Abha mosque bombing.
