Following the official release of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow in India, Canada and the United States on Moto G (3rd Gen), mobile carriers in the U.S. are expected to roll out the same update. Mobile carriers AT&T and Sprint are reportedly releasing the software on Moto G (3rd Gen) by this quarter.
Sprint and AT&T are slated to push out the official Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update on their Moto G (3rd Gen) units this month. The upgrade will bring native goodies to Motorola on top of Marshmallow's original set of features.
Unlocked versions of Moto G (3rd Gen) were updated in January 2016. Motorola has not explained as to why the gap between these versions from those of Sprint and AT&T were months away. Moto G (3rd Gen) of these carriers were last updated with Android 5.1 Lollipop in December 2015. In India, the update just arrived last March 29.
Other unlocked Motorola devices done with the update include Moto X Pure Edition (2015), Moto X Pure Edition (2014), Moto X Force and Moto G (2nd Gen). Motorola used to be at the forefront of the Marshmallow race with its series of updates when 2016 opened. It seemed like the company is giving up the crown to Samsung which released both the official build and the beta version of Marshmallow.
LG and HTC, meanwhile, already have a few devices in the Marshmallow bracket come next with only two devices each updated to Marshmallow.
Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update of Motorola is expected to weigh around 1GB as it will come with a lot of optimizations and improvements from Lollipop, including the performance, software, battery life, user interface, mobile payments, plus the additions brought by the carriers.
Marshmallow in particular will bring Doze, runtime permissions, Now on Tap, app links, direct share, Android Pay and so many others.
