Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow has finally started being pushed out to Motorola Moto X Play units in Canada and India. The update is now up in these countries across all units via over-the-air (OTA) rollout, bringing security patches and a new set of emoji.
Motorola Moto X Play phones around the globe are expected to get the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update as versions in Canada and India have now been updated. The device was first updated to Marshmallow launcher in December 2015 in Canada and in January 2016 in India.
Aside from the latest Android security patches and a new set of emoji, the Marshmallow update brings along with it the ability to launch Motorola's camera app by double tapping the power button as well as close it down at the sound of its shutter. On top of it, Marshmallow also brings stability improvements. The update is 388MB only.
If the update has not come to the phone yet, try to manually check for the availability of the software through Settings > About > Update.
Motorola soak tested the Marshmallow software in the past few months before officially releasing it. Devices tested include Moto G (2013), Moto X Style and Moto X Pure Edition. In a matter of a week, the company was able to start rolling out the update over the air which was immediately followed by mobile operators too, an unusual move in the Android community.
Meanwhile, Moto E (2015) phones in India were also updated to Marshmallow last month. The update is expected in Canada and Europe this month while versions in the US are yet confirmed as to when to receive it.
Some screenshots have appeared in the web showing a dose of what Marshmallow and Motorola have to offer. These include Doze, app permissions, direct share, Android Pay, Now on Tap, fingerprint support, and a lot more.
