‘Gambit’ Update: Film Pulled Out Of October 2016 Release For Two Unknown Marvel Movies; Deadpool's Appearance Possible?

By

It's been a year since Marvel announced a 'Gambit' film but the solo movie's development is still in the rough road until now. Recently, it was reported that the movie won't be hitting theaters in time. However, 20th Century Fox has a plan B in store for the superhero flick.

Many have seen Gambit in the film 'X Men Origins: Wolverine' and his fans are now excited for a spin-off film exclusive for his character. However, recent reports claim there's a delay in the production. According to The Bit Bag, Channing Tatum's 'Gambit' film has been removed from the original October 7, 2016 release and has now an undetermined premiere date. The film is known to have tapped director Rupert Wyatt, but on September, he dropped the film and was replaced by Doug Liman. This has eventually led to the studio's decision to scrape off the project from its release schedule.

Movie Pilot predicts that a collaboration between Deadpool and Gambit could be a possibility in the future. The delay could be due to Deadpool's entrance to the film after having a success in the box-office last month. However, if Deadpool would be included in Gambit's film, the story would be shifted and might skip Gambit's days on Thieves Guild. Nonetheless, it would be good and probably better to see both of them at the same time in big screen.

Either way, Fox has scheduled two dates for unknown Marvel films to vacate the spot, as reported by AV Club. The studio has announced two mystery projects for the dates of October 6, 2017 and January 12, 2018. There hasn't been any announcement though on what kind of films these. With its massive universe, the dates could see a debut of a spin-off or a heroes collaboration. The said schedules are subject to go head-to-head with 'The Jungle Book: Origins' and 'Blade Runner 2', respectively.

Gambit is supposed to be Fox's new addition to its own Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is slated to star Channing Tatum with Doug Liman as director and Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner as producers. So far, Channing Tatum and Lea Sydoux are the only cast members confirmed for the film. As for its release date, there has been noconfirmation yet but it is likely pushed back for a 2017 debut.
