Fans went hysterical after J.K. Rowling announced the eight story of the Harry Potter franchise titled 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child'. Although many prayed and waited for the announcement of a film adaptation, the author herself confirmed that the latest installment will not be adapted into a movie.
Nearly a decade since the last Harry Potter book went out, J.K. Rowling announced the eight installment as a stage play. However, Movie Web reports that a lot of fans assumed it to follow the steps of the previous books. Unfortunately, it won't, as confirmed by the author, herself. She posted on her Twitter page the confirmation, stating "You heard wrong, I'm afraid. #CursedChild is a play. #FantasticBeasts will be 3 movies, though!"
'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' is set to open as a West End play written by Jack Thorn and John Tiffany, according to International Business Times. The story takes place 19 years after the last book in the original series and focuses on Harry's son, Albus, who struggles to 'come of age in the shadow of his family's legacy;. The play's first performance is scheduled in July 30 at London's Place Theater.
While many are disappointed with the news, Slash Film believes the play will eventually be turned into a movie as the franchise is a money-maker for Warner Bros. The article says that it is not impossible for the studio to adapt the play into a film, knowing that Harry Potter franchise went on to $7 billion in revenues. Fans would also love to see Harry Potter as having a job in Ministry of Magic and his current life while raising three children.
Nonetheless, fans will still have a new excitement as the Harry Potter universe expands with the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them trilogy. The spin-off arrives in theaters on November 18, 2016, to be followed by 2 sequels in November 16, 2018 and November 20, 2020, respectively.
