Microsoft Xbox 2 vs. Sony PS5: Augmented reality different from virtual reality; Both consoles with built-in gamepad screen, cloud-based gaming?

By

Microsoft's Xbox 2 may feature augmented reality while the Sony PS5 could support virtual reality. Both consoles are rumored to offer built-in gamepad screens and cloud-based gaming experience.

The latest rumor on the Xbox 2 and PS5 suggests that the next-gen consoles may be capable of virtual reality gaming. Christian Post reported that both gaming systems will offer "dynamic, interactive worlds" for a more immersive game experience. Three Fields Entertainment technical officer Paul Ross said that gameplay will be more realistic in the PS5.

However, some reports say that the Xbox 2 will offer augmented reality and not virtual reality. Xbox 2 Gamers said that augmented reality takes the user's surrounding and adds or changes some elements in it. This is what the Xbox 2 is expected to offer since Microsoft's HoloLens headset features augmented reality.

On the other hand, virtual reality creates a totally different world to provide a more immersive gaming experience. Sony is said to be pursuing virtual reality to the PS5 just like its Project Morpheus VR headset.

Massive changes on the designs of the Xbox 2 and PS5 are expected as both consoles are moving towards cloud-based gaming. It was reported that the Sony and Microsoft will be ditching the bulky hardware for a sleeker and smaller design. Cloud-based gaming will allow users to download and stream games online.

Another rumor says that the upcoming consoles will have built-in screens on their gamepads similar to Nintendo Wii U. However, this rumor seems more likely for the Microsoft Xbox 2 since a native gamepad screen would bring about a major redesign for the PS5 controller.

According to Lawyer Herald, the PS5 and Xbox 2 may launch in 2019 with the latest Grand Theft Auto 6 game on board. GTA 6 is said to feature a female protagonist, new storyline, and more special effects. In the game, users will be able to explore the vast geographical landscape of the whole United States using teleportation.

The Microsoft Xbox 2 and Sony PS5 are expected to have upgraded processors and backward compatibility. It is possible that the Xbox 2 may be released earlier than the PS5.
