Sharp divisions in ideologies over how to handle the civil war in Syria led to a chilly encounter between U.S. President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G8 Summit on Monday.

Chicago police reported on Monday that the weekend was the most violent gun violence in the city of the year, The Chicago Sun-Times reported. Several shootings left at least seven people dead and over three dozen injured, news reports said. Police also said an officer shot and killed a teenager on Sunday night after the teenager allegedly pointed a gun at them. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the assailant as Michael Westley, a 15-year-old.

Police are seeking all video that may have been taken of a shooting at the Juneteenth Festival over the weekend that wounded an 11-year-old boy, the Associated Press reported. The shooting happened on Saturday, at a festival at park near Columbus, Ohio, which historically has celebrated the end of slavery in the U.S.
