New York police said that 20-year-old Maverick Madore, who was believed to have robbed five banks, went on a Midtown Manhattan bank robbing spree before being apprehended, on foot, near the entrance of the Lincoln Tunnel , the Huffington Post reported.
After demanding cash at the Bank of America on Broadway and West 33rd Street at 3 p.m., Madore allegedly hit two more banks on West 56th Street and Broadway, including an Amalgamated Bank, the New York Post reported. He then allegedly managed to rob the Capital One Branch on West 37th Street and Sixth Avenue, where he said he was a former bank employee, sources said.
While being chased by cops, Madore's getaway car crashed on West 31st Street. Madore then got out, and began running towards the Lincoln Tunnel where Port Authority Officer Josh Maarleveld arrested him near the entrance.
"He was ready to check out for the night when he got out of his car and joined the chase," a Port Authority spokesman told the New York Daily News described Maarleveld before apprehending Madore. "He grabbed the suspect right at the mouth of the tunnel."
A search for 47-year-old Frank Mione, who they suspect was the getaway driver, is still being conducted, as of Friday.
