Indian officials said an American tourist was gang -raped by a group of men in a hill resort in the northern part of the country. The woman was picked up by three men in a truck on Monday night while hitchhiking back to her guest house in Manali, a town in Himachal Pradesh state, police said. She had been visiting friends, and reportedly was unable to find a taxi cab home.

By representing himself, Hasan the opportunity to question the more than two dozen soldiers he was also accused of wounding in his brazen terrorist attack nearly 4 years ago.
A judge on Tuesday accepted Aurora shooting suspect James Holmes' plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. Holmes is accused of opening fire in an open movie theater on July 12, 2012, killing 12 people and injuring 70. He is charged with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder, and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. A thorough mental evaluation could take months.
Authorities have recovered the body of Holly Fischer, a missing North Carolinian whose car was found at the bottom on an 800-foot embankment Sunday Night. Investigators had been searching for Fischer since last week when she left her parents' home in Charlotte, North Carolina.
