Houston police have uncovered what they call a "prison room" in Texas where at least four victims were being held against their will, the Huffington Post reported. Local station KTRK reported that officers responded to the Houston home on Friday morning after a tip that four elderly men between 54 and 70 were being held captive in the garage.
Police Sgt. Steven Murdock said the tip came from a neighbor who called authorities expressing concern about the men men in the house in North Houston. The men were malnourished and "almost invalids," the police sergeant.
When officers arrived, the front door was nailed shut, and inside they found the four victims in a trash-ridden room. There were no beds.
One victim said he had been the for about 10 years, CNN reported. The three other men were unable to walk and were brought to a hospital.
A suspect and three women live in the house, and after taken into custody, it was not immediately clear whether that person will be facing charges.
Police told some news sources that the men may have been homeless, and were tempted to the house with cigarettes and beer, in exchange for their Social Securty and Veteran's Administration checks, FOX 4 reports.
The living conditions at the place were not good according to one of the victims, adding that he had been staying there for six months.
