Dr. Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia abortion doctor convicted of killing three babies who were born alive in his clinic agreed on Tuesday to give up his right to an appeal will face a life in prison. Gosnell will be spared a death sentence.

Attorney General Eric Holder said on Tuesday that he recused himself from a case involving a Department of Justice decision to subpoena phone records from Associated Press. Holder also said that the Justice Department has ordered a criminal investigation into the IRS' targeting of different conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status.

Kern County's Sheriff Donny Youngblood is defending the seizure of cellphone video of deputies beating David Sal Silva with batons last week in Bakersfield, California. Silva, a father of four, later died at a nearby hospital.
