Amid the announcement of the release schedule of Marvel's purported upcoming movies, speculations are growing on that a "Thor" installment may just be around the corner.
A report in Enstarz suggested that the third installment would be an end to Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston's time in the superhero series. According to the site, the God of Thunder and his brother Loki would die in "Thor 3." The rumors were actually based on the Ragnarok plotline in the comics. To comics fans, the Ragnarok signalled an apocalypse that also represents the end of Asgard.
In the comics, Loki forged an army with Thor and Fire Giant Surtur, who is regarded as an enemy of Asgard. Loki eventually died due to decapitation as the war against Asgard rages. Asgard will then fall and all of Thor's army were not able to stand a chance as the legendary hammer Mjolnir was destroyed. Because of the Asgardians' defeat, Thor had to surrender his fallen home Surtur's realm, the extradimensional plane of Muspelheim, and later died.
When Hemsworth was asked about his thought on where the famous series will go, he told Screenrant, "I think that in the comic book the sort of end of days, Armageddon aspect is probably the direction in which it will all head in. Where it's sort of the end of all things and there's obviously no script or anything when I read the comic books I thought it was an interesting way to go," said Hemsworth.
There are no details yet on follow-up to "The Dark World" sequel. Although some had suggested that it is set for a May 2017 release, just after the 2016 release of "Captain America 3" and "Doctor Strange" but ahead of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" sequel.
Meanwhile, the Prince of Asgard will be next seen in the upcoming film, "Avengers 2: Age of Ultron," which will hit theaters on May 1, 2015.
