'Thor: Ragnarok' welcomes Tessa Thompson to the new cast to star alongside Chris Hemsworth as his latest love interest. Natalie Portman, who played Dr. Jane Foster and Thor's sweetheart in the first two installments in the 'Thor' series, is reportedly not returning for a third time.
According to Deadline, Thompson has signed on for 'Thor: Ragnarok' in a yet confirmed role. Her new character is speculated to be Chris Hemsworth's latest love interest in replacement of series mainstay Natalie Portman who will not be returning to reprise her role as Dr. Jane Foster.
It was also reported by Screen Crush that Thompson will be appearing in future films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It was speculated that she may possibly take on the role of a key female character the likes of Monica Rambeau or even Roz Solomon.
The 32-year old American actress is best known for her recurring roles on several television series including 'Veronica Mars', 'Hidden Palms', '666 Park Avenue' and 'Westworld'. She also worked on numerous critically-acclaimed full-feature films such as 'Dear White People', 'For Colored Girls', 'Selma' and 'Creed'.
According to /Film, Thompson will coincidentally star opposite Portman in the Alex Garland's 'Annihilation' together with Jennifer Jason Leigh and Oscar Isaac. Portman appeared in the first two films in the 'Thor' series - specifically 'Thor' released in 2011 and its sequel 'Thor: Dark World' released in 2013.
Portman's Dr. Jane Foster was an astrophysicist who helped Thor return to his home in Asgard and eventually fell in love with him. She was a key ally to the Prince of Asgard during the Battle of Greenwich where she aided in the defeat of Malekith.
'Thor: Ragnarok' is an upcoming fantasy-adventure film intended as the third installment in the 'Thor' cinematic series. It is directed by Taika Waititi and written for the big screen by Stephany Folsom, Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost. It is scheduled to premiere in theaters on November 3, 2017.
