'Wolverine 3' is Hugh Jackman's final outing as the titular mutant and the film is headed for an R-rating. Live Schreiber, who played the classic villain Sabretooth in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine', hinted that he may reprise his role in the upcoming film.
According to Den of Geek, the third installment in the standalone X-Men cinematic series focused on Hugh Jackman's Wolverine may be headed for a much-coveted R-rating. Insiders revealed that studio executives have been considering the R-rating long before the release of Tim Miller's highly successful 'Deadpool' starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular Merc with a Mouth.
'Deadpool' was a surprising hit at the box office despite its restrictive rating that it was rumored future X-Men releases may follow suit. It is interesting to note that Jackman's character featured continuously throughout 'Deadpool'. It was previously reported that 20th Century Fox was originally intending for 'Deadpool' to be a spin-off of 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'.
Jackman is expected to return in 'Wolverine 3' for the last time since he was first introduced as the hot-blooded mutant in the 2000 film 'X-Men' directed by Bryan Singer. The 47-year old Australian actor also went on to star in his first standalone film in the franchise namely in 2009's 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' and its sequel 'The Wolverine', released in 2013. He also appeared as Logan a.k.a. Wolverine in several X-Men films including 'X2', 'X-Men: The Last Stand', 'X-Men: First Class' and 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'.
According to another article on What Culture, Jackman's final outing may be bloodier, grittier and more violent in comparison to its predecessors for a multitude of reasons. Director James Mangold, the current filmmaker attached to helm the new project, is best known for adding more adult-oriented themes in his work. It was also speculated that the third film will be loosely based on the comic book series 'Old Man Logan', which has a controversial storyline as well as a highly graphic and extremely violent nature.
Meanwhile, rumors have emerged that the upcoming film may bring back a classic supervillain in the form of Liev Schreiber's Sabretooth. According to MTV, the Tony-award winning actor may reprise his role as Victor Creed a.k.a. Sabretooth, Wolverine's half-brother and eventual arch nemesis. Schreiber last appeared on 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' and it seems that Marvel would be bringing the character back on the big screen.
When asked about his potential appearance on 'Wolverine 3', he replied, "[Jackman and I] talked about it... I don't know. He's mentioned it to me. The Old Man Logan story - that's appealing. That's something that I can do. Old, being the operative word."
'Wolverine 3' is a planned action-adventure film to feature Hugh Jackman in his last appearance as Wolverine in the long-running 'X-Men' franchise. It will be directed by James Mangold and penned for the big screen by Michael Green. It is scheduled to be released on March 3, 2017.
