‘Batman Solo Movie’ to tell Robin’s story? Ben Affleck hints collaboration with DC’s Chief Creative Officer

By

'Batman Solo Movie' is an upcoming film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) intended as a prequel to Zack Snyder's 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'. It may attempt to tell Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman's origin story and may feature Robin's story as well. Ben Affleck recently hinted that he was collaborating with DC's Geoff Johns for a new project.

According to Screen Crush, Affleck hinted that he is working on a "mysterious" new project with DC's CCO Geoff Johns. He said, 'Geoff Johns is a brilliant guy. I consider him to be the most valued resource on all things comic book, and every time I like something in the comic I always mention it he goes, 'oh yeah, I wrote that.'... You know, he and I are working together on something and I really am excited about it, and I love him, he's the best."

It was previously speculated that Affleck may return to portray one of DC Comics' most popular superheroes as well as direct the character's standalone film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). It was not specified if Johns would be co-writing as of the moment.

According to /Film, Johns is a comic book and television series writer who also served as producer in several film and television projects. He is best known for his work on the hit television series 'Smallville', 'Arrow' and 'The Flash' and also did work on several DC publications for characters such as Superman, Green Lantern, Aquaman and The Flash.

Affleck was first introduced as Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman in Zack Snyder's 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' released on March 25. Snyder's follow-up to 2013's 'Man of Steel' told the story of the conflict between Affleck's Batman and Henry Cavill's Superman. It also introduced the third member of the Justice League team in the form of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman.

Snyder's film was a mainstream success but was received with mixed reviews. Although critics generally panned the film itself, Affleck's interpretation of the caped crusader was well-received. The film also contained several clues leading up to speculation that the yet untitled 'Batman Solo Movie' may delve deeper into the story of Jason Todd a.k.a. Robin, Batman's most loyal ally and sidekick.

According to Moviepilot, 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' featured Robin's suit covered in graffiti. Although the boy wonder himself was noticeably missing from the recent film, the 'Batman Solo Movie' may attempt to backtrack into a prequel film that followed his story. John hinted that Robin's suit in the film is part of a bigger plan to lay the groundwork for future films in the DCEU.

'Batman Solo Movie' is a planned superhero film that will feature Ben Affleck as the titular dark knight. It was speculated that the actor may also direct the film with DC's Geoff Johns co-writing the screenplay. It is intended as a prequel to Zack Snyder's 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'.
