‘Star Trek Beyond’ actress Zoe Saldana squeezes into costume she says is too “short”; Director Justin Lin works extra hard to meet July premiere

'Star Trek Beyond' is an upcoming science-fiction adventure film starring Zoe Saldana as Lt. Uhura of the USS Enterprise. The actress revealed her new costume on Instagram and admitted that it was still too "short". Meanwhile, Director Justin Lin is reportedly working extra hard to meet the July premiere for his film.

Saldana will be reprising her role as Lieutenant Nyota Uhura in Justin Lin's follow-up to J.J. Abrams' 'Star Trek Into Darkness', released in 2013. The 37-year-old actress took to Instagram to show off her redesigned costume for the upcoming film. It showed her usual red dress but with longer sleeves this time around.

The actress told Yahoo! Movies, "I do have my stripes, just like each and every crew member on the ship. I'm very happy about that... It's still short. I'm like, 'Are you kidding me?' But you know what. I just had twins and the fact that I'm able to wear this little dress seven months later, I'm grateful!"

Saldana's space lieutenant was made famous by Nichelle Nichols in the original 'Star Trek' television series as well as its subsequent full feature film adaptations. Nyota was introduced on the big screen in the first film, 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture', as one of the most important multicultural crew members on board the USS Enterprise. Nichols' part in the franchise was a defining moment for African-Americans taking on a major role in an American television series.

According to Cinema Blend, Saldana's new costume is more in tune with Nichols' original one although the latter had more squiggly stripes on her sleeves. Saldana is also attached to James Gunn's 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2', for which she also has to squeeze into skin tight clothing as the character Gamora. She received her breakout roles in Abram's first rebooted film 'Star Trek', as well as in James Cameron's 'Avatar' and Olivier Megaton's 'Columbiana'.

Meanwhile, director Justin Lin is revealed to be working double time ahead of the film's July 22 release this year. According to Trek Today, Lin is currently on post-production duties and reportedly sleeps an hour to three hours a night due to his busy schedule.

A source from the editing offices revealed, "Justin Lin works really fast... He's got a reputation in the business [as a director] who can turn massive projects around very, very quickly. He works from nine in the morning to two A.M. in the [editing] office, five days a week.... He'd be editing [that day's] sequences every night to make sure he got what he needed... I saw some stuff that was nearly finished, that looked spectacular."

'Star Trek Beyond' is an upcoming science-fiction adventure film intended as the thirteenth film in the rebooted cinematic series. It is directed by Justin Lin of 'The Fast and the Furious' fame and stars Saldana, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Simon Pegg. It is scheduled to be released on July 22, 2016.
