'The Crow' remake is a planned reimagining of Alex Proyas' classic cult favorite from 1994. Production for the reboot stalled after director Corin Hardy dropped out of the project. Producers are seeking to halt the development of the film altogether.
According to Empire, development for long-percolating reboot of the 1994 neo-noir fantasy film of the same name has come to another unexpected halt after director Corin Hardy dropped out of the project. Since its announcement on 2008, the reboot has been in and out of development.
It was eventually set to begin production in spring of 2015 with Jack Huston starring as the main protagonist, for which the actor also dropped out. On July 2015, development stalled once more due to Relativity Media's bankruptcy. Finally it was reported that production will continue on March 16 under Hardy as the new director, but failed to continue since the filmmaker's recent exit.
Hardy is best known for his work on the horror film 'The Hallow', which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 2015. It was received with generally positive reviews from critics and earned Best Horror award at the Jameson Empire Awards.
According to Comicbook.com, the award-winning filmmaker has been attached to 'The Crow' reboot since December 2014. Relativity Media signed the director to a $150,000 holding deal with production looking to begin on March. However, Dana Brunetti, acting on the behalf of Relativity Media, removed Hardy from his directorial duties in January.
The filmmaker did express his enthusiasm in spite of it all saying, "I can only say it's been a very interesting week... You have to keep watching, really, because it's quite a complicated situation. It ain't over."
An article by Total Geeks reported that 'The Crow' producers Edward R. Pressman Film Corporation are looking to block the planned reboot altogether following Hardy's ousting from the project. Pressman stated, "[Hardy] is known for his visual flair, having a penchant for horror and dark subject matter... The parties believed that Mr. Hardy was particularly suited to reinvigorate The Crow, which is based on a dark tale of revenge told originally in graphic novel form." It is presently unknown what prompted Brunetti to cut Hardy out of the film.
'The Crow' remake is a planned reimagining of the 1994 classic cult favorite film directed by Alex Proyas. The original film was based on James O'Barr's 1989 comic book of the same name, which told the story of a rock musician who returned from the dead to avenge the murder of his fiancée. Proyas' film starred Brandon Lee, who met his demise on set after an accidental shooting on the filming set.
