'John Wick 2', officially titled 'John Wick: Chapter 2', is an upcoming action-thriller film featuring the return of Keanu Reeves as the titular assassin. Laurence Fishburne admitted that he asked Reeves, his co-star in 'The Matrix' trilogy, to get him a part in the sequel. His character will reportedly help expand the new film.
According to JoBlo, Fishburne admitted that his 'The Matrix' co-star Keanu Reeves had a hand at getting him a part for director Chad Stahelski's follow-up film for the critically-acclaimed 2014 release 'John Wick'.
The 54-year old actor and filmmaker said, "Keanu and I have remained friends and we saw each other and I told him I watched the movie and loved it. He was about to start the movie again and I was like, 'Yo, man, you gotta talk to Chad and tell him that your boy Fish wants to come get down,' because I really wanted to be a part of it. They found something for me to do, and it was really cool."
According to Cinema Blend, Fishburne and Reeves worked together in 'The Matrix' trilogy of films back in the late '90s to the early 2000s. The science fiction and action media franchise was first created by the Wachowski brothers under Warner Bros. in 1999. Fishburne played the character Morpheus while Reeves portrayed the series' main protagonist Neo.
The 'John Wick' sequel, entitled 'John Wick: Chapter 2', is set to feature the return of Reeves as the titular assassin called out of retirement to seek revenge. Fishburne joins him as The Bowery Man, a relatively unknown character as of the present.
It seems that his Bowery Man is set to expand further on the 'John Wick' movie universe, according to Collider. Fishburne hinted, "I'm not part of the Continental world, no, but I'm a part of another world that exists inside the world of John Wick. That wasn't something that was clear in the first movie. It's like a part of his world that exists but you wouldn't know about it, and it won't really be revealed until the second movie."
He also admitted that although his character will not be getting as much action scenes as Reeves', the sequel will be just as "fantastic". He said, "It's very cool. It picks up where it left off and it's one of those instances where the right actor in the right role and the whole thing. It's really great."
Reeves himself previously revealed in an interview that 'John Wick 2' will explore more of the series' underground world as well as its assassins. He also expressed his enthusiasm over reuniting with Fishburne for the film.
'John Wick 2', or 'John Wick: Chapter 2', is an upcoming action-thriller film directed by Chad Stahelski.
