The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are among the first devices to be updated with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1. The update is expected to roll out to the Galaxy S5 and Tab S2 by April.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and its variants will be among the first devices to run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. Lawyer Herald reported that, a Samsung Android Marshmallow release guide was spotted online. According to the leak, Samsung will have three phases of update rollouts to Galaxy smartphones. The first devices to receive the update are the S6 series, the Galaxy Note Edge, and the Galaxy S5.
The leaked guide seems to be accurate. According to Tech Times, the latest Samsung devices will be the first to receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow. An international Marshmallow update will be available for the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+ and Note 5 this March. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Tab S2 could get the update by April, followed by the Galaxy Alpha in June.
Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge devices under Vodafone in the UK and the Netherlands have also started receiving Android Marshmallow in February. However, Samsung has released Android 6.0.1 only to Galaxy S6 phones with model number SM-G920F and Galaxy S6 Edge handsets with model number SM-G925F.
In South Korea, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge units are also being upgraded to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Major U.S. carriers said they will roll out Marshmallow to the S6 and S6 Edge phones.
Gospel Herald had reports on the features of Android Marshmallow 6.0.1. The enhanced OS has new features such as Google Now on Tap, Doze battery manager, improved app permissions control, a new Samsung browser that enables ad-blocking, and an improved version of TouchWiz UI.
There will also be new emojis bundled in the Marshmallow update for Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge phones. The emojis will be similar to those in Samsung's newest flagships, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
