‘The Crow' Remake Update: 1994 film director Alex Proyas reveals why he’s not giving his approval to the remake

By

"The Crow" hit theaters in 1994 and essentially became a cult classic following the death of its lead actor, Brandon Lee. Now, studios are keen on doing remakes which apparently include the film of Alex Proyas. In retaliation, the director shares his story on why he's opposing the remake of "The Crow."

"The Crow" is included in the growing list of films to be rebooted, but film director Alex Proyas is standing his ground that it is not necessary. Cinema Blend wrote that Alex Proyas gave an honest statement in saying that the original movie should be allowed to stand as memoir to actor Brandon Lee.

"I personally feel like it's kind of unnecessary," Proyas said. "I've said this many times, I've completed the original movie to honor Brandon and that's the sole reason I did it. I'm happy I did it for that reason." He added that the movie should serve as Brandon Lee's legacy and shouldn't entertain other opinions. He ended by saying that Hollywood should leave the movie alone and let it remain as part of Lee's.

Proyas is known to be the director of recently mocked "Gods of Egypt" and "Dark City", as discussed bySlash Film. The director was given a rough time after the "Gods of Egypt" was ripped by critics and the audience didn't take any interest in watching the film becoming a box office flop.

Meanwhile, JoBlo reported that the reboot of Proyas' "The Crow" has been in the works for numerous years now but even before the production starts, the project hits a wall, thus, extending its hiatus. The most recent attempt for the film was set by Relativity Media which have been looking for actors to play Eric Draven. It was noted that among the shortlisted are Luke Evans and Jack Huston. However, Relativity announced bankruptcy that eventually lead to "The Crow" remake getting dumped. Nonetheless, another news surfaced that Corin Hardy has taken interest in directing the remake due in March but there is still no actor involved.

The original film was noted to have debuted in 1994 under Proyas' helm. The action film entails the story of Eric Draven who was revived from the dead to avenge his death and his fiancée. The film is also Brandon Lee's final appearance after he's been killed on the set by a defective gun prop.
