Android 6.0 Marshmallow's adoptable storage present in LG G5 but not Samsung Galaxy S7; Limited memory problem in S7 phones

LG confirmed that the LG G5 has Android 6.0 Marshmallow's adoptable storage feature. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S7 will not have this functionality, eliciting mixed reactions and opinions from customers.

According to a report from Softpedia, LG Public Relations representative Monica Levy confirmed that their newest flagship device will be using Google's adoptable storage feature. Its embrace of adoptable storage might give it an advantage over S7 and iPhone.

Ars Technica reported that Google's latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow's adoptable storage allows users to format a microSD card as an internal storage. Furthermore, the adopted storage is a feature that allows users to utilize the inserted SD card for the first time on a Marshmallow device as portable or internal storage.

It appears that earlier this week, Android 6.0 Marshmallow adoptable storage became one of the most controversial features when Ars Technica and Android Authority reported that LG G5 and Galaxy S7 won't support Android 6.0's adoptable storage. Confusion over LG and Samsung's use of storage options has caused a lot of reactions and opinions from customers.

On the other hand, Samsung simply did not opt to use adoptable storage to address customers' needs. It argued that using a microSD on another device might cause the card to reformat. It could erase any data saved and create bad experiences for the users.

Clearly, taking this choice away from users has definitely garnered concerns especially from S7 customers. However, TechInsider reported that Android users have the option to enable and disable the feature so it is not entirely a serious concern.

Though the LG G5 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 may be different in terms of battery capacity and camera features, both use Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 System-on-Chip processor paired up with 4 GB of RAM. Both devices also have large resolution displays, microSD card slots for storage, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.
