Samsung's Unpacked event featured the new Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge phones featuring better cameras and batteries. Facebook plans to partner with Samsung to push virtual reality in smartphones.
The Samsung Unpacked event is all about the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge at the MWC 2016 held in Barcelona, Spain. The Indian Express reported that Samsung introduced a special app to let Android users watch the event in a 360-degree VR Style View.
Users were able to view the 360-degree VR Style Live streaming of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge through Android and iOS smartphones. The live streaming has four viewing angles: the auditorium, stage left, stage right, and center stage. Smartphone users downloaded the Unpacked 360 View app on Google Play and App store. Others watched from their desktop computers through the Samsung website. Those who own Gear VR headsets were able to download the app from Oculus Store and watch the Unpacked event.
The new Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are more comfortable to hold, easier to pick up on a table, have flatter fingerprint scanners, and have less pronounced camera humps. The S7 sports a 5.1-inch, QHD Super AMOLED display, while the S7 Edge has a 5.5-inch display (QHD Super AMOLED and curved on both edges).The back of the S7 Edge has a slight curve, making it much more comfortable to hold than the S6 Edge. It's also remarkably small; especially when put side-by-side with other phones that have 5.5-inch screens.
The Galaxy S7 has a huge 3,600mAh battery while the S7 Edge has 3,600mAh. Samsung equipped its new flagships with adaptive fast-charging and wireless charging features. The Independent said that the new Samsung phones tout water-resistant designs and microSD card slots for mermory expansion.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge sport a new 12MP camera that can capture high-quality photos in low-light. The camera's lens has a f/1.7 aperture, allowing in 25% more light. S7's new camera can focus up to three times faster due to its dual-pixel system. This technology allows every single camera pixel to act as focus pixels, similar to DSLR snappers. The S7 camera can launch quickly - beating a Nexus 6P and iPhone 6S Plus in getting ready to take a shot. The sensor's shape has also changed from a wide 16:9 to a 4:3 ratio.
According to IBN Live, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg appeared in the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 launch. In the event, Zuckerberg advocated the application of virtual reality in smartphones and social media. He plans to partner with Samsung to make Facebook the "best video platform for virtual reality."
Pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are available through the Samsung website. Those who pre-order the new phones will get a free Samsung Gear VR.
