Android N 7.0 Rumors: Release Date, Features and Name Predictions

By

Although a lot of Android device owners are still waiting for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, its successor, known as the Android N, has already made it to the rumor mill. The Android 7.0's release date, features and possible names are being predicted online.

According to Android Origin, ever since the Android 1.0 Angel Cake was released 7 years ago, Google has been releasing every important Android update with a name starting with a succeeding letter of the Alphabet. It can also be noticed that every firmware update is named after a sweet delicacy. This trend has become a tradition for Android now, and it is not expected to change anytime soon.

The latest update which is the Android 6.0 is named the Android Marshmallow. Its predecessor, the Android 5.0 was called the Android Lollipop.

The 2016 Android update is predicted to carry forward this style, and it may have a name starting with N. Every year there are assumptions surfacing which sweet Google is going to name the latest Android after. This year, the top choices are Nougat and Nectar. Some even suggest "Naan Bread," but it is considered very unlikely.

It can be remembered that the Android 4.0 was named the Android Kit Kat, after the popular chocolate produced by Hershey in the US. With this, predictions have arisen that Google will again name the latest, Android N, after a brand and it might be called Android Nutella.

When it comes with the release date, Alphr reported that Android M was publicized at I/O 2015, and it's very likely that the biggest search engine company will follow the same approach to Android N. With this, it may be launched at I/O 2016.

This year that conference will fall between May 18 and 20, so it is expected that the Android N will make its public debut during the opening keynote. After its May release, an Android N Developer Preview is expected to be made available. Then, later in the summer, Android N will have a name, and then around October the software will start to roll out officially.

As for the phones that may be eligible for the Android N, it's very possible that Google will unveil new Nexus phones with the OS update pre-installed. Soon after that, Android N will be accessible to older Nexus phones and tablets. Then, it will reach other Android devices from other OEMs like Samsung and HTC around the beginning of 2017.

Additionally, PC-Tablet stated that the Android N is speculated to be a mixture of the Chrome OS and the Android OS. It has been predicted in the past that the next generation of Android OS might eradicate the Chrome OS. Other talks, however, state that these two operating systems will be combined- with Chrome being folded into the Android OS.

With the Android N 7.0, Google has affirmed that both operating systems will remain working as a pair. But, most probably with Android O 8.0, these operating systems will become one. This is because the biggest search engine company wants to increase its market share with laptops instead of tablet hybrids, running Android.

Though it may sound exciting, the above mentioned details are just based on predictions and speculations, so it should be taken only as a guide. But considering the big amount of time left before its release, more rumours and theories about Android 7.0 N should surface soon.
