Samsung Galaxy S Series fans who are eagerly waiting for the Galaxy S6's successor are in for a treat. The release date and specs of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have been revealed after official images of the device made it online.
BGR stated on its article that Samsung is set to launch the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge during the pre-MWC 2016 event on February 21. As the releases of these handsets are forthcoming, alleged renders have also surfaced all over the wire.
Evan Blass has shared a press render showing that the upcoming smartphones will look much similar as last year's Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge. If tech enthusiasts would take a keen look, they will notice that the edges on the Galaxy S7 are a tad curvier than its predecessor. This is especially more noticeable on the flat variant than the Galaxy S7 Edge. The renders also show the Galaxy S7 in grey color, and the Galaxy S7 Edge in gold.
Additionally, The Inquirer stated that Samsung has used the same 5.1-inch QHD Super AMOLED screen same with the last year's Galaxy S6. Nevertheless, Galaxy S7 Edge will have a bigger 5.5-inch screen, and both will offer the added bonus of always-on display functionality.
Despite the similarity, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will showcase some major enhancements. It was reported that both smartphones will arrive armed with IP67 dust- and water-resistance certification together with microSD slots that can hold up to 200 GB memory expansion.
Samsung patrons could also expect a bump in battery life as the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will be powered with 3,000mAh and 3,600mAh batteries, respectively -- a mile higher compared to the older versions' 2550mAh and 2600mAh. Wireless charging support will also be included, but owners won't still be able to manually replace the batteries.
There are also reports claiming Galaxy S7 to have a downgrade in the camera department. This is because both handsets are expected to arrive with 12MP rear-facing sensors. It was noted that last year's devices house 16MP sensor. Nonetheless, this will be paired with an f/1.7 lens for better imaging in low light, and will reportedly be flush with the case. The leaked photos also suggest Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge to stick to microUSB, contrasting the USB Type-C connection seen on most new models.
When it comes to the price, PC Advisor reported that the 32GB models of the S7 and S7 Edge will be priced at Euro 699 and 799, respectively. The 64GB version would be around 70-80 more, but this is just an estimate.
As usual, patrons still have to wait for further announcements as Samsung has not confirmed anything yet. Fans can only keep their fingers crossed that the upcoming Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will be worth the wait.
