‘Captain America: Civil War’ Update: Directors explain why Tom Holland’s 'Spider-Man' missing in trailers and posters

'Captain America: Civil War' will feature Tom Holland as the newest Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Joe and Anthony Russo explained the real reason why Holland's character remains absent from promotional material.

According to Movie News Guide, Spider-Man played a crucial role in the events of the Civil War in the original Marvel comic books but the hero remains missing from trailers and posters.

The revelation of Spider-Man's true identity in the comics is one of the more important plot highlights in the original comic books. He was mentored by Iron Man and was on the character's side before switching his allegiance to Cap's team after questioning the principles of the pro-registration supporters.

Another article by Cinema Blend stated that directors Joe and Anthony Russo explained why the popular web slinger still hasn't appeared in any promotional material for the upcoming film.

They said, "The reason why we still won't talk about [the costume] is that Marvel and Sony still have to work out what uses they have for the character, on a promotional level, on a commercial level. There's still complications as far as that goes that involves business deals."

It was reported that the new deal between the two studios allowed Marvel total creative control over the character should he appear in any film in the MCU but it also allowed Sony the same should the character have his own standalone film.

According to the Inquisitr, Sony owned the rights to Spider-Man since 1999 and produced five separate feature films under the contract. Tobey Maguire took on the lead role in Sam Raimi's 'Spider-Man' trilogy while Andrew Garfield starred in the rebooted series 'The Amazing Spider-Man'.

Tom Holland is set to play Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and will debut his character in 'Captain America: Civil War' and has signed on for three more future films. He will also star in his own standalone film in the MCU scheduled to premiere sometime in 2017.

The 19 year-old English actor broke into the entertainment industry with 'Billy Elliot the Musical' played at the Victoria Palace Theater in London. He went on to work in feature films including 'The Impossible', 'In The Heart of the Sea' and 'Pilgrimage'.

'Captain America: Civil War' is an upcoming action-adventure and superhero film directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. It is intended as part of the MCU's Phase Three and is scheduled to premiere on May 6, 2016.
