'Boruto Naruto' is a planned spin-off film based on the characters created by Masashi Kishimoto. The project may be cancelled indefinitely due to the creation of a new anime adaptation for 'Naruto Shippuden: True Legend of Itachi' set to air in March 2016.

According to Movie News guide, the planned spin-off film following the success of full feature film 'Boruto: Naruto The Movie' may be cancelled due to another impending project that may potentially cause scheduling conflict. It was announced that another anime adaptation, entitled 'Naruto Shippuden: Itachi Shinden (True Legend of Itachi)', is set to air sometime in March 2016.

Another article by Bit Bag reported that 'True Legend of Itachi' will explore the story of Sasuke Uchiha's late older brother Itachi. The original manga was split into two. The first part, 'The True Legend of Itachi: Glory', followed a young Itachi who joined the Ninja Academy in hopes to train to become the first Uchiha clan member to reach the Hokage level.

The second part of the two-part manga, "The True Legend of Itachi: Dark Night", told the story of Itachi's assassination mission to take out spies in order to join the ANBU. It also focused on the eventual massacre of the Uchiha clan massacre at the hands of Itachi with Sasuke as the only surviving clan member.

According to Anime News Network, author Takashi Yano released his two-part manga on September 4 and October 2, respectively. The 'True Legend of Itachi' novels, together with 'Sasuke Shinden', were the first two installments in the 'Naruto Shippuden' series. They join the list of growing titles published by Shueisha including six other Naruto epilogue books such as Kakashi Hiden, Shikamaru Hiden, Akatsuki Hiden, Gaara Hiden, Sakura Hiden and Konoha Hiden.

Meanwhile, Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto will supervise a new manga in the series drawn by his assistant Miko Ikemoto and written by 'Boruto: Naruto the Movie' scribe Ukyo Kodachi. The upcoming manga will focus on Naruto's son Boruto and will be released in Weekly Shonen Jump in Spring of 2016.

'Boruto Naruto' is a planned spin-off based on the famous manga and anime by creator Masashi Kishimoto. It is intended as part of the growing list of cinematic adaptations based on the original manga and anime series. 'Boruto: Naruto the Movie' was the eleventh film in the series earned $23 million at the box office since its release in August 2015.
