‘Wonder Woman’ News: Lynda Carter cameo rumors debunked; Official release date in June next year

By

'Wonder Woman' is an upcoming action-adventure and superhero film directed by Patty Jenkins. Lynda Carter, the original iconic Wonder Woman of the 1970s, will not be making a surprise cameo in the new standalone film starring Gal Gadot despite numerous rumors.

Carter is well-known as the original 'Wonder Woman', especially by fans of her generation. The 64-year old American actress starred in the television series named after the iconic heroine that ran from 1975 to 1979.

According to Washington Post, numerous speculations of Carter's surprise appearance in the upcoming film emerged with reports stating that the actress will have a minor role in DC's new live-action adaptation.

Several online petitions have also been put up in support of Carter's cameo and her involvement in the new project. Chris Pine, who is set to play Wonder Woman's love interest, teased during an interview with E! News that he couldn't give any update on Carter's supposed cameo. He said, "If I could tell you that I wouldn't, but I can't."

According to another article by Cinema Blend, Carter previously admitted that she was open to playing a role in the upcoming film as long as it wasn't just a small cameo. She said, "If it really is something that is gratuitous I won't do it; if it's just for me to show up in it I wouldn't do it. But if there is something written that they think would be appropriate then most definitely I'd consider it... I would love it."

However, it was recently revealed that the actress will not be appearing in 'Wonder Woman' any time soon. Pete Sanders, one of Carter's representatives, announced that his client wishes the project success despite not appearing in Gal Gadot's new film, according to Comicbook.com.

The original Wonder Woman and former Miss World America title holder has been keeping a low-profile from the entertainment industry since her heavy outing in the '70s. Besides attending charities and events, she has been doing voice-over work for various video games. Her last big screen appearances include 2005's 'The Dukes of Hazzard' and 'Sky High'.

'Wonder Woman' is an upcoming superhero film scheduled to be released on June 23, 2017 and is currently in production. It is directed by Patty Jenkins based on a screenplay by Jason Fuchs. It stars Pine, Gadot, Robin Wright, Lucy Davis, Danny Huston, and Connie Nielsen among others.
