'10 Cloverfield Lane' is an upcoming science-fiction and mystery film following 2008's horror movie 'Cloverfield'. It stars John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead and directed by Dan Trachenberg with J.J. Abrams producing.
J.J. Abrams secretly put together a follow-up to Matt Reeves' 2008 monster horror film and recently released its official trailer attached to Michael Bay's newest film '13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi'. According to The Guardian, the surprise trailer was launched with the same found-footage style from the original 'Cloverfield' movie.
According to another article by CNET, the Abrams-Paramount Pictures' collaboration is neither a sequel nor prequel to the original film but is set in the same "universe". The film originally ran under the titles 'The Cellar' and 'Valencia' but was officially renamed as '10 Cloverfield Lane'.
The new film follows the story of three people cohabiting in a fallout shelter far from the dangers of the outside world. They lived mundane lives until one of them attempts to escape.
Abrams, who serves as the film's producer, admitted that he wanted to make a "blood relative" to 'Cloverfield'. He said, "The idea came up a long time ago during production... The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible."
The long-gestating follow-up stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Gallagher Jr. and John Goodman. Winstead, who plays one of the fallout shelter's residents, dropped plot hints for the upcoming film during an interview with Collider.
The 31-year old actress said, "It's basically my character wakes up in a cellar and I'm being kept down there by John Goodman. He tells me that basically the world is over outside because there's been a nuclear fall-out. It does have similarity to Faults, in some ways, because you don't know who's telling the truth or who to believe. There's a lot of, who's manipulating who, and all of that." She added that although 'Cloverfield' and '10 Cloverfield Lane' may be different "tonally", the two have the same themes.
'10 Cloverfield Lane' is an upcoming follow-up to 2008's 'Cloverfield' scheduled to be released on March 11, 2016. It is directed by Dan Trachenberg based on a screenplay by Josh Campbell, Matthew Stuecken and Damien Chazelle. J.J. Abrams is serving as producer alongside Bob Dohrmann and Lindsey Weber.
