After five films that was rooted from the 1979 novel Nothing Lasts Forever of Roderick Thorp, character John McClane will be returning to the big screen with a different approach. According to Comic Book, director Len Wiseman shared some thoughts regarding the sixth's plot as they're trying to offer a bigger table to the audience using a prequel/sequel approach. The film will provide a prequel part that takes place on the 1979 New Year's Eve that'll feature McClane's life before become a bitter cop and a failed marriage. The director wants to show the fans how did the young John McClane ended being on that way and is going to detail the actual love story with Holly.

In the reports of Collider, Wiseman detailed Willis' involvement and is assuring fans that it will be more than just cameos. He stated that he's saying its prequel/sequel because he won't be doing the film without Bruce Willis. It should be just that way since Bruce Willis is John McClane, and Wiseman added that he's working real hard with the plot to reveal the ramifications of 70's to the present-day Bruce.
Lastly, one real challenge that the director is facing might be finding one who can portray John McClane as good as Bruce Willis. In International Business Times report, the Total Recall director said that it has to be an actor with the swag and confidence while maintaining charisma, talent and wit. He added that it must be felt that the actor who'll portray owns it rather than wearing the role.
