Android 5.1 Lollipop OTA Update for Sony Xperia C4 and C5 Ultra Now Available; Marshmallow Update To Follow

By

Sony Xperia C4 and C5 Ultra can now be upgraded to the latest Lollipop firmware which is the Android 5.1. These Xperia handsets are also expected to obtain the Marshmallow update really soon.

According to International Business Times, Sony has started rolling out the 5.1 Lollipop version to Xperia C4 and C5 Ultra series handsets. The new firmware with build numbers 27.2.A.0.155 and 27.2.B.0.155 have been released to Xperia C4 and its dual version, respectively. Meanwhile, the software with build numbers 29.1.A.0.87 and 29.1.B.0.87 are being rolled out to C5 Ultra (models: 5553 & E5506) and C5 Ultra Dual (E5533 & E5563), individually.

To check for OTA update, users of these smartphones have to go to settings >> about phone >> system updates >> check. Since the over-the-air update is being carried out in stages, it may take a few weeks to reach all the devices. However, before downloading the upgrade, users are advised to make sure their phone has at least 50% battery left and that it's connected to a stable Wi-Fi network.

Neurogadget cited some of the improvements that the Android 5.1 Lollipop update brings. The upgrade arrives with enhancements to Android Run Time (ART), which will help applications to load faster. The Okay Google glitch has been fixed while the silent mode has been brought back as well. It was noted that the setting was wiped out after other devices were updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop. There is also another fix provided for the SMS bug, and a new WiFi Wi-Fi toggle option access in Quick Settings.

Meanwhile, Softpedia stated that the Japanese company has been working to upgrade some of its smartphones to Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system, but only a few handsets received the beta update. Sadly, if Sony continues to be so slow in bringing the software updates to some of its most popular devices, it might take even a whole year for Marshmallow to be delivered on all devices that are said to be eligible for the new OS.

Despite this, Sony Xperia C4 and C5 users can explore the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS first while waiting for the confirmation of the next update to their handsets. Hopefully, Sony will give further details as to when the next update will arrive in the aforementioned devices.
