The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update has been rolling out gradually to smartphones from different manufacturers. Sony is one of the companies which are expected to deliver the newest update to its devices. Sony's list includes Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact, Z5 Premium, Z4, and Z3 under US major carriers.
According to Gospel Herald, Sony is really known for being slow when it comes to Android update compared to other smartphone manufacturers. The Japanese tech company did open source the Android 6.0 update, which would permit developers and ROM makers from the Android community to create versions of Android Marshmallow for selected handsets. This seems to indicate that the Android Marshmallow could arrive sooner rather than later, but there isn't any schedule when exactly it will land to the units.
The list of the Sony Xperia handsets to obtain the Android update is massive, with some devices from 2013. In fact, it is reported that the Z1 could be receiving the new OS, which would be very uncommon. It is noted to be pretty odd in the world of Android updates for any device over two years old to be eligible for an Android update.
However, International Business Times stated that Sony is predicted to begin rolling out Android 6.0 firmware updates for Xperia Z5 series smartphones first. The phone series include Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5. The Marshmallow update will also be released to Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M5 and Xperia M4 Aqua.
Apart from the aformentioned devices, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3V, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet and Xperia Z Ultra GPE are also getting the latest mobile OS this year. In fact, there are reports saying that there was a beta test of Android 6.0 on the Z3 and Z3 Compact users, with a built in the first OTA update.
Sony Xperia devices could obtain the update to Version 6.0 but it will differ directly on the carrier, which in the United States would be Verizon, US Cellular, Sprint , AT&T, and T-Mobile. Nevertheless, Sony promised that the company is working as fast as it can to bring this update to devices.
Although there is no confirmed schedule as to when the Android Marshmallow would be delivered to the above mentioned Sony devices, one thing is for sure, Sony is doing all the efforts to bring it as soon as possible.
