'Toy Story 4' is an upcoming 3D-animated film featuring the return of Tom Hanks as Woody, the toy sheriff. The Oscar-winning actor confirmed that the sequel has already begun production in time for its 2018 release. Patricia Arquette has also joined the cast to voice a new character described as a hippy mom.

According to The Daily Mail, Hanks confirmed that production has begun for the newest installment of the 3D animated films following the adventures of toys Woody and Buzz Lightyear. The Oscar winner admitted that the sequel has already been greenlit for production and that he is already recording voice-overs for his role as Woody, the old-fashioned stuffed cowboy doll known for his loyalty and bravery. The new film opens in theaters in 2018.

The 59-year old American actor announced the news on BBC's The Graham Norton Show. He revealed that although he's been voicing Woody since the first feature film in 1995, the task can take a toll on him. He said, 'It's very hard work animating these films. Honestly, it is because the recording sessions go on for four or five hours ... and my diaphragm gets a workout... I'm driving home and I literally have to put an ice pack on my chest because it's clenched throughout."

Meanwhile, fellow Oscar-winner Patricia Arquette has signed on to voice a brand new character alongside Hanks and Tim Allen who will reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear respectively. According to /Film, she will play the role of a "laid-back mom who's described as a hippie". The American actress won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 2014's 'Boyhood' and has also appeared on Nick Sandow's 2015 drama film 'The Wannabe'.

Her new character in the upcoming addition to Pixar's 'Toy Story' franchise is penned by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. According to Games Radar, this won't be Arquette's first animated film project as she is set to voice a witch in the upcoming 'TROLL: The Rise of Harry Potter, Jr'.

'Toy Story 4' is an upcoming 3D-animated comedy-adventure film directed by John Lasseter and Josh Cooley. It stars Hanks, Arquette, Allen, Bonnie Hunt, Joan Cusack, Annie Potts, Don Rickles, Jeff Garlin, Estelle Harris, Blake Clark and Bud Luckey. It is scheduled to be released on June 18, 2018.
