'Fantastic Four 2' is a planned live-action adaptation of the Marvel superhero team-up of the same name. It is intended as a follow-up to 2015's remake but cast members don't think it will likely push through. Fox removed the sequel from its 2017 schedule late last year.
According to Comic Book, Tim Blake Nelson admitted that he didn't think the sequel to 2015's superhero remake of the foursome of the same name will happen anytime soon. Nelson was cast as Dr. Harvey Allen, a scientist working for the government who trained the members of the superhero group to hone their powers and abilities. He was reportedly in the running for the character Mole Man originally.
Nelson said, "I think it's off the schedule now... I don't think they're making one, but I'm not sure." Nelson's villainous Dr. Allen met his demise in the first film and it was speculated that he was merely suggesting the end of the planned cinematic series since his character was killed off anyway.
Another article by Forbes wrote that a sequel is highly unlikely due to the poor reception of 'Fantastic Four'. It only earned $168 million against a $120 million budget despite signing in a potentially spectacular cast made of Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell. As much audience criticism is concerned, the remake was a certified disaster.
It was the third film from the franchise distributed by 20th Century Fox. The first ever film released from Fox's series was back in 2005 with Ioan Gruffudd as Mr. Fantastic, Jessica Alba as the Invisible Woman, Chris Evans as the Human Torch and Michael Chiklis as The Thing. Despite being nominated at the Saturn Awards for Best Science Fiction Film for that year (it lost to 'Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith), it met mixed to average reviews from critics and fans alike.
Last November, it was reported that Fox removed the scheduled 'Fantastic Four 2' from its 2017 line-up. It was originally slated to be released on June 9, 2017 but has eventually disappeared to reasons unknown, according to IGN. It remains unclear whether Fox is looking to fill another slot in its movie roster or if the film is indeed cancelled indefinitely.
'Fantastic Four 2' was a planned action-adventure and fantasy film slated to be released on June 2017. Its predecessor was an attempt to revamp the franchise of the Marvel superheroes of the same name. It was directed by Josh Trank, who co-wrote the screenplay together with Jeremy Slater and Simon Kinberg.
