'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 3 Spoilers: Boyle encounters ex on midseason premiere; 'Sons of Anarchy' alum Katey Sagal cast as Jake’s mother

FOX has released the description for the Jan. 5th midseason premiere of Brooklyn Nine-Nine where fans will find Boyle having a tense encounter with his ex-wife. In other developments, Katey Sagal has boarded the hit comedy to play the role of Jake Peralta’s mother.

When Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns this week on FOX, things will get interesting between Boyle and his ex-wife, Eleanor (Kathryn Hahn). When Charles and his love interest, Genevieve (Mary Lynn Rajskub), plan to take their relationship to the next level, Eleanor pops-up into the scene potentially sabotaging their romantic venture.

Description of the episode titled “Hostage Situation” has been released by The Futon Critic.

Elsewhere, Amy (Melissa Fumero) enlists Terry (Terry Crews) to create a letter of recommendation which will end with a “disastrous” outcome.

In other developments, TV Line reported that Sons of Anarchy alum Katey Sagal has boarded the cast of Nine-Nine. The actress will portray the role of Jake Peralta’s (Andy Samberg) MIA mother named Karen Peralta.

Karen will first appear in an early 2016 episode which will also mark the reappearance of Jake’s father (Bradley Whitford). According to the publication, the arrival of Sagal’s character is expected to bring a “tense family reunion” among the trio.

In other 99 casting news, New Girl actor Damon Wayans Jr. has also landed a guest starring gig on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that he will be playing Stevie, Jake’s first partner during their “beat cop days”.

On the episode, viewers will find the duo investigating a case together. Unfortunately, Stevie’s arrival and Jake’s excitement with their reunion will ignite some friendship problems with Charles.

Brooklyn Nine Nine resumes its third season with a new time period schedule, beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 5 on FOX.
