Sunday’s finale of Homeland plotted a cliffhanger for Quinn which drew some insightful comments from fans online. Titled “A False Glimmer”, the hit Showtime series rolled out an emotional sequence for Carrie while also hinting that Quinn might no longer be with us when the new season kicks off next year.
The Dec. 20th season finale of Homeland had fans wondering whether Carrie just killed Quinn in the closing minutes of the episode. As reported by TV Line, the doctor informed Carrie that even if Quinn was to survive his bleak condition – he would still live the remainder of his life with severe brain damage. This drove Carrie to remove his pulse monitor before, presumably, pulling the plug.
While the writers didn’t actually made viewers witness Carrie taking Quinn off from the machine, it’s pretty clear that Quinn is already dead given the severity of his brain injury. As TV Line notes “Homeland would risk mass ridicule if it returned in Season 6 with Quinn still alive; he’s dead, people”.
Earlier, director and executive producer Lesli Linka Glatter chatted with Variety to give fans a hint on what’s to unfold in the finale.
She said: “There are lot of moving parts. There’s a lot of story that’s still up in the air, and especially where Carrie ends up at the end.”
Judging from the director’s statement, it seems that season 6 will be a critical turning point for the series. Glatter may have also slightly hinted that viewers will see the last of Quinn in the finale.
“It’s very emotional and potent. And it leaves open a lot of room for next season as well,” she added.
Fans of Homeland, meanwhile, did not miss the opportunity to express their reactions following the uncertainty of Quinn’s fate.
Some believe that Carrie’s ex-partner is still alive. “Quinn will be 'reborn'. He went from darkness to light. Brain damage his redemption. Miracle,” reads a tweet posted on Monday. For others, they think Quinn deserves a second chance to live because he’s proven to be an interesting character. “I understand Brody dying. But Quinn has more stories in him,” a fan commented on Twitter.
Actor Rupert Friend who portrays Quinn on the hit series has not yet commented on his character’s future. Homeland will return for season six sometime in 2016.
