'Mission: Impossible 6' is a planned action thriller that is scheduled to be released sometime in 2017. Director Christopher McQuarrie said that his sequel will "raise the bar" with a challenging new sequence. Tom Cruise and Rebecca Ferguson will reunite as agents Ethan Hunt and Ilsa Faust.
According to MNR Daily, director Christopher McQuarrie has signed on to helm his second ever film in the franchise - making him the first filmmaker in the series' history to return. McQuarrie is best known for his work in blockbuster films such as 'Valkyrie', 'The Tourist', 'Jack Reacher' and 'The Usual Suspects'. He is the fifth director to get his own feature film in the franchise following in the footsteps of previous filmmakers Brian de Palma, John Woo, J.J. Abrams and Brad Bird.
His film, 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation', earned $682 million since its release in July 2015. According to Female First, the 47-year old filmmaker expressed his enthusiasm for the follow-up hinting that he has brand new surprises up his sleeve.
He said, "Look, we definitely have to raise the bar, we've got to do that every time... And we have an idea for one sequence in particular and it's one we're very, very excited about. It's going to be incredibly challenging to do, and we're very excited."
Tom Cruise will return as the iconic Ethan Hunt, a senior field operations agent for a top-secret espionage group called the Impossible Missions Force (IMF). The character was first introduced in the 1996 release 'Mission: Impossible'.
The new film will reunite Cruise and his 'Rogue Nation' co-star Rebecca Ferguson, according to Vanity Fair. Ferguson, who will reprise her role as British agent Ilsa Faust, will be the first ever leading lady to return for a second time in the series.
'Mission: Impossible 6' is a planned action film directed and written by Christopher McQuarrie. It will be the sixth installment in the widely popular spy-thriller franchise that follows the missions of lead character IMF agent Ethan Hunt. The films grossed a combined $2 billion in box office earnings.
