A crew member died on the filming set of 'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter' after he was crushed under an Army-issued Hummer. Injured stuntwoman Olivia Jackson will also need to have her arm amputated following her own accident on-set.
According to The Telegraph, the death of a crew member on the filming set of Paul W.S. Anderson's sixth and final installment in the 'Resident Evil' series has been kept from the public only until recently. Ricardo Cornelius, a 34-year old resident of Cape Town, was crushed to death by a U.S. Army Hummer that was used as a prop for the new film. His role was to manually operate a small rotating platform on which the Hummer was placed.
Cornelius was rushed to a hospital and immediately put on life support but eventually met his demise within hours of emergency help. It was reported that Cornelius died just a week before his 10-month anniversary with his new wife.
Another article by Comicbook.com wrote that Cornelius' 26-year old widow Shafiefa said that her husband's employer downplayed the extent of her husband's injuries to obtain identification documents from her.
She said, "When I asked what happened, (Cornelius's colleague) said Ricardo will have to stay in hospital for a few days. I thought he hurt a finger or something so I didn't worry too much." Although she received financial compensation for the incident, she revealed, "No one can tell me what happened, I need closure. His colleagues who I spoke to blocked me on WhatsApp... None of the bosses have even contacted me to tell me what happened."
The fatal accident followed news of injured stuntwoman Olivia Jackson's need for arm amputation after her own unfortunate mishap on the filming set of 'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter' earlier this year. According to The Independent, Jackson revealed that her arm will have to be completely amputated as it is paralyzed.
The highly sought-after stuntwoman was filming a high-speed motorbike chase stunt when she crashed into the metal arm of a camera. The camera arm was said to have "malfunctioned" and failed to lift on her approach. Jackson worked on several blockbuster films including 'Mad Max: Fury Road', 'Avengers: Age of Ultron', 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens'.
'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter' is an upcoming action-horror film written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. It will star his real-life spouse Milla Jovovich in the lead role of Alice. The sixth installment in the zombie apocalypse cinematic franchise is scheduled to be released on January 27, 2017.
