‘Indiana Jones 5’ moving forward; Luscafilm and Disney debunk reboot, Indie recasting rumors

By

'Indiana Jones 5' is an upcoming action-adventure film that may feature the return of Harrison Ford in the lead role. Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy revealed that the sequel is moving forward. Lucasfilm and Disney do not intend to reboot the franchise nor recast the title role despite rumors.

According to Games Radar, Luscafilm president Kathleen Kennedy spoke of the possibility of a new film in the popular action-adventure franchise.

She said, "We're all trying to figure out when the right time is to step back in. Harrison really wants to do it; Steven really wants to do it. We've kicked around a couple of story ideas, but beyond that, I don't know yet. I think there will be one, we'll certainly move forward with Indy. But right now, everybody's just focused on Star Wars." Now that the release of 'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens' has been over and done with, the question remains as to when 'Indiana Jones 5' will push forward.

Another article by Screen Crush wrote that neither Lucasfilm nor Disney would want to pursue a reboot of the franchise despite previous speculations of one with Chris Pratt in the lead role as a young Indie. Producer Frank Marshall also told fans that there was no need to worry since there had been no plans of recasting the titular role either. Should there be a new film in the series, Harrison Ford will remain Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones.

Steven Spielberg also assured that the role will always be Ford's. Ford first starred in the 1981 Spielberg-George Lucas collaboration 'Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark' as the globetrotting archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones. He went on to reprise his role in 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom', 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade', and the latest 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull'.

The 73-year old Academy Awards nominee also expressed his enthusiasm over getting back in character, according to Cinema Blend. He said, "I would love to do another Indiana Jones and work with Steven [Spielberg] again...If we get a script, I'd love to it." He recently reprised his role as Han Solo on 'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens'.

'Indiana Jones 5' is a planned action-adventure film intended as the fifth installment in the popular franchise created by George Lucas. Although no official announcements have been made as of the present, it was speculated that Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg may return as the film's lead protagonist and director, respectively.
