‘Transformers 5’ Plot Spoilers: Ultra Magnus takes over leadership after Optimus Prime exits?

By

'Transformers 5' may feature Ultra Magnus taking over the Autobots' leadership role on Earth in replacement of Optimus Prime. The new film is said to be Optimus Prime's last appearance on the series. Writer Akiva Goldsman hinted that the fifth installment will feature a "great" interaction between the human and robot species.

According to MovieWeb, the upcoming addition in the 'Transformers' cinematic franchise is said to be Optimus Prime's final film as he goes after the tentacle overlords, the Quintessons. The character's chief lieutenant, Ultra Magnus, is also rumored to take over the leadership role on Earth after that.

Ultra Magnus is the first commanding officer, leader of the Wreckers and former leader of the Elite guard. He assumed command over the Autobots in Optimus Prime's absence. He is depicted as a competent leader as well as a strong, loyal, courageous and willful soldier.

Another article by International Business Times reported that the yet unnamed Transformers film is scheduled to be released sometime in 2017. Academy Award-winning scribe Akiva Goldsman is leading a group of writers for the creation of several stories for possible films in the series. He revealed that the interaction between humans and robots will be "great".

Goldsman said, "Do I think Transformers can live without humans? Sure. Do I think humans can live without Transformers? Sure... In Transformers movies? Sure! But, fundamentally, there seems to be something really great about the interaction between the two species. I think that, in the main, I would suggest that that would be something you wouldn't want to squander. Although that doesn't mean that you couldn't do all sorts of things for a little while."

He added that he hoped all stories in the planned shared cinematic universe encompassing live-action adaptations of the Hasbro toy lines will be interconnected and standalone at the same time. Goldsman also hinted of a possible Optimus Prime origin story as well as for the Autobots and Decepticons.

Meanwhile, Den Of Geek reported that Mark Wahlberg will be returning as human protagonist Cade Yeager for 'Transformers 5'. The Hollywood action star headlined the preceding 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' after Shia LaBeouf's exit from the series.

'Transformers 5' is a planned sequel to 2014's 'Transformers: Age of Extinction'. It is scheduled for theatrical release sometime in 2017 and remains to be without a director. It is unknown whether Michael Bay will return to helm the upcoming film.
