"Supernatural" lead star Jensen Ackles is set to undergo a major shift in his role as Dean Winchester, as he is reported to become a cold-blooded villain in the upcoming premiere of the show's season 10, told Christian Today.
Citing reports from E! Online, the outlet revealed that Dean, who turned into a demon in the previous season, will be featured as a villain in the upcoming season. Apparently pleased with his transformation, the character will refuse to show compassion over people.
Ackles himself dished out information about the change that will occur to the personality of his character.
"It was a tough season for old Dean last year. He was going through a lot. I wanted to take all of that away, all the weight of the world, all the heavy, the guilt, all of that stuff, remove all of that, because Demon Dean does not care," Ackles said. "That's kind of where I went with this character. He is Dean without a care in the world... It's not comedic, it's almost scarier. He cares so little for everything and everybody, and he loves it."
Due to his demonic transformation, Dean will experience a solitary life in the next installment of the series, told Digital Spy. His relationship with brother Sam (Jared Padalecki) as well as with his friends will be gravely affected. He will be left with the company of Crowley (Mark Sheppard), the longest recurring antagonist of the show.
"It's really kind of solo flying for demon Dean, and it's kind of sad," Ackles noted. "He's like the guy at the party who just keeps drinking and making an ass of himself, and he doesn't care that his friends have all left and the music's died. It's sad, but it's also a little scary, because of what he's capable of. Out of three days of filming last week, I was in four fights."
Meanwhile, according to reports from Entertainment Weekly, show runner Jeremy Carver revealed that Dean will not stay in his demon form for the entire duration of "Supernatural." Carver said that the well-admired character will revert back to his normal being.
However, the executive producer assured that despite the resolution on Dean's character, a lot of "twists and turns" will still take place, which fans can surely look forward to.
"I think just when it seems like things might be starting to settle down, we will introduce a few new doosies to the world," told Carver.
The 10th season of "Supernatural" will start airing on October 7, 8 PM exclusively on CW.
