Amid the divorce issues that Robin Thicke and estranged wife Paula Patton is confronting, the father of the 37-year-old singer-songwriter, Alan Thicke, spoke up and gave words of encouragement for his son, Fashion & Style reported.
Quoting the interview of Huffington Post with the Thicke patriarch, the website told that Alan Thicke remains supportive of his son who currently faces problems with his marriage. The "Growing Pains" actor encouraged his son Robin to "listen to his heart" "do what he feels" as he tries to fix his conflict with his wife.
"My advice to Robin is listen to your heart, do what you feel. Follow your heart in love and marriage as you would in career and you'll be fine," Alan noted. "Robin has a great heart. He's a fabulous father. He obviously followed his heart in creating and devoting an entire album to Paula and I believe you can't go wrong that way."
The 67-year-old Canadian actor and book author also opened up about his personal style of parenting, saying that he is "too laid-back, permissive and trusting" as a father.
"I was no strict at all and occasionally that bites you in the butt," he said. "But generally speaking, I'm pretty happy with my kids."
Despite being a hands-on father, Alan Thicke told that he tries not to micro-manage his sons while also assuring that his sons' values remain intact all the time.
"I'm in touch with or engaged with at least one of them every single day," Alan said. "Worst case scenario it's every third day for any one of those kids... I try not to micro-manage and have a bit of a don't ask, don't tell approach that related to Carter's sex life at least... We talk about respecting women and being faithful in relationships... no surprise pregnancies... and STD's."
Doing all his best to win Patton back, Robin dedicated his entire album to his wife. However, Patton seems unconvinced with the singer's efforts, leading him to give up on making amends with his estranged wife. Citing reports from TMZ, Fashion & Style said that Thicke is currently settling financial matters with the help of his lawyer.
Meanwhile, Thicke's recent album named after his wife Paula is reported to be a huge failure after being included on the Top 10 album flops of 2014 released by LA Times, told Web Pro News. The article bluntly described the album as a "creepy, hastily, crafted mea culpa." The website also said that Thicke failed to serve the album's purpose of communicating his message to his wife.
Robin Thicke's "Paula" only garnered total sales of $24,000 on its first week of release.
