‘Witches of East End’ Season 2, Episode 5 Recap: Freya’s journey back in time, Joanna’s interesting love affair in the past

After last week's hiatus, "Witches of East End" Season 2 is back with a steamy and action-filled episode 5 entitled "Boogie Nights." It is definitely worth the wait, as the show returned with plenty of thrilling scenes that fans have been craving for.

Much to the delight of Frillian fans, the fifth episode truly showed a lot of Freya-Killian action. It could be recalled in our previous report that Freya (Jenna Dewan -Tatum) is set to travel back in time to relive moments with her estranged lover Killian (Daniel DiTomasso).

In last night's episode, Freya, who is trying to cope with her devastation from her love's marriage with Eva (Bianca Lawson), creates a potion that would enable her to revisit one of her past lives with Killian. This is what "Witches of East End" showrunner Richard Hatem revealed during the 2014 ATX Festival, as reported by International Business Times. Hatem noted that the show's second season will feature an "American Hustle" themed episode that will showcase the 1970's era.

True to Hatem's word, Freya's time travel in episode 5 shows a lot of elements from the 70's including "hair, mustaches, and bell bottom." In her literal trip down to memory lane, Freya gets the chance to experience making love with Killian once more. Unfortunately, her sister Ingrid (Rachel Boston) woke her up in the heat of the moment.

Meanwhile, "Boogie Nights" also interestingly reveals Joanna's (Julia Osmond) past romantic affair with new character Alex (Michelle Hurd), a palm-reading witch back in the 70's. Despite already cutting ties with her, Joanna is left with no choice but to ask help from an old flame, who happens to be the only person to kill a Mandragora. It can be recalled that the blue creature has been seen feeding on a clueless Ingrid and some of the East End residents.

Through the help of Alex, the Beauchamp family learns that the Mandragora in fact draws energy from a mate to keep itself alive. Without wasting time, Alex and Joanna seek for the lair of the creature to finally end its terror. Just when Alex is about to shoot Mandragora, Joanna magically controls the bullet, hitting only the creature's arm. Joanna finds out that killing Mandragora would also put her daughter's life in jeopardy, as both of them are already connected. Ingrid, on the other hand, feels the pain of the gunshot.

Episode 6 of "Witches of East End" Season 2 will premiere next week, August 17, on Lifetime.
