"Suicide Squad 2" might be handled by Daniel Espinosa or another prominent director but the sequel must take note of these if it wants to improve. The first "Suicide Squad" film was met with mixed feedback from both casual fans and critics alike.
On the other hand, "Suicide Squad 2" has the potential to be better than its predecessor. According to TheGuardian, "Safe House" director Daniel Espinosa is in talks in regards of directing the "Suicide Squad" sequel.
Another name brought into the conversation is Hollywood actor and director Mel Gibson. Gibson recently rebounded and revitalized his directing gig with his recent Oscar-worthy film "Hacksaw Ridge."
The source mentioned that Gibson is currently familiarizing himself with the "Suicide Squad" material. As for Espinosa, his recent film outing is the upcoming Sci-Fi Thriller "Life" starring Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal.
It's quite debatable as to which director is more fit for a villainous super-hero themed flick like "Suicide Squad. Regardless, "Suicide Squad 2" should learn from the first film in order to avoid inconsistent critical feedback.
According to TheHollywoodReporter, the first film missed the whole point of the "Suicide Squad" series. Although the "Suicide Squad" did portray the leading cast as a band of criminal misfits, it eventually misrepresented them.
"Suicide Squad" had the makings of a super-hero film, the problem is, it's not supposed to be one. If "Suicide Squad 2" were to take an approach that's more authentic to its series counterpart, then the villains would actually act like villains.
Fans of the series should see the nature of these villainous characters, and not their super-hero counterpart. Perhaps "Suicide Squad 2" might take a different turn, now that it's beyond the influence of the first film's director David Ayer.
Ayer's formula might still work with his spin-off film "Gotham City Sirens." However, the "Suicide Squad" sequel might need to depart from his style in order to redeem itself.
