LG now intends to compete in the smart watch market as they will be launching two variants of smart watches, LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style, this coming Feb. 8. The new gears will have Android Nougat on board with an IP67/IP68 certification.
The LG Watch Style, which is considered to be the lower end, will be sold for $249, while the higher end LG Watch Sport will be available for $349. The latter being more advanced will have features like heart rate monitor, LTE, GPS, and NFC.
The LG Watch Sport having the LTE capability means that it will be able to receive and make calls even without the pairing of a smartphone. Also, unlike the LG Watch Style having only an IP67 certification, the Sport will have an IP68, according to PhoneArena.
The gears will be powered by Qualcomm's quad-core SoC running at 1.4GHz, still unnamed but possibly a Snapdragon 400 series. The LG Watch Sport will have 768MB of RAM and a 4GB internal memory. An expansion slot is still under question. Both the Style and Sport's screen will have a 1.38 inch (480x480) display, a Bluetooth 4.2, and 430mAh battery. Possibly, Android Pay will be available on both smart watches as well.
The Android Nougat mentioned is actually the Android Wear 2.0 which is based on the Nougat, and will both be used for the LG Watch Style and LG Watch Sport, Android Headlines reported. In addition to the LTE capability, Wi-Fi access will be a sure fire feature of both devices.
On the listing, the LG Watch Sport has the codename "Swordfish." Together with LG's smart watches, the rumoured Android Wear will possibly have its debut in the market anytime soon. However, the final breakdown of the actual features will only be clear after the scheduled Feb. 8 launch this week.
