Bill and Ted are headed for their next adventure in the yet to be titled Bill and Ted 3. After years in development, the film could finally be moving ahead as Alex Winter said that they could begin filming later this year or early next year.
While promoting his new documentary Who the F*@% is Frank Zappa?, Winter revealed new details about the Bill and Ted 3 film. As reported by Consequence of Sound, Winter noted that they have been working on the project for six years and are currently trying to find the perfect date to begin filming.
"We're knee-deep in the script, it's been written by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, who wrote the first two, they are fantastic writers, and the script is great. We have a script, we have a director, we have a studio - we're just trying to nail down a start date." Winter said.
When asked about the timeline on the filming, Winter said that they are hoping to begin late this year but it is also possible that it might happen in early 2017. Plot details are also currently under wraps but Keanu Reeves noted in the past that the film will be funnier as the characters have already aged.
According to /Film, Winter also revealed that other characters from the previous films will return for Bill and Ted 3. However, new characters will also be introduced. He also mentioned that new actors will be included as George Carlin is no longer around to reprise his role as Rufus.
As reported by Mirror, the idea of making a third film came about after Reeves rewatched the previous movies and said that he wanted to revisit the franchise. "It's really funny, because I asked him (if he wanted to do a sequel) and I could tell he was waiting for me to ask. Because he was like, 'Yeah, duh.'" Winter stated.
Aside from Reeves and Winter no other details about the cast, or director has been announced for the upcoming Bill and Ted 3 yet. No release date has also been officially scheduled for the movie, but more details are expected to be released as the film inches closer to production.
