Robert Downey, Jr. is preparing for his next outing as the notorious detective in Sherlock Holmes 3. After its announcement in 2014, details have been scarce on the project but cast members hinted that they are doing everything to make the next installment the best yet in the franchise.

A third installment is on its way for the Sherlock Holmes franchise which is also not surprising given the box office success that the previous two films earned. As reported by Ecumenical News, the latest hint about the progress of the film came from Robert Downey Jr who posted a photo of himself sporting a wig, and a cane in hand which he captioned with the words "Master of Disguise".

Downey, Jr. also previously revealed that he wants to explore more on the character of Perry Mason for the sequel and added that they are consulting the original Sherlock Holmes material to mine for "new" things.

Writer Lionel Wilgram also previously admitted that the third film will not be very easy as they are aiming for it to be the best in the franchise.

"We're working on a 'Sherlock Holmes 3' script," Wilgram said as reported by Parent Herald. "I think we would all love to do one if we could come up with something that really was really going to knock it out of the park and was going to be the best of the three. So we're working on that -- it's quite hard to do."

Plot details for the third film are currently unknown but as reported by Cross Map, actor Jude Law hinted that it could include the ideology of time travel. Law said he made a pitch for the third film about time travel which Downey, Jr and director Guy Ritchie may have liked.

Ritchie helmed the first two films in the franchise which turned out to be box office success, however, it is unknown whether he will return in the director's chair for the upcoming Sherlock Holmes 3.
