Avengers: Infinity War directors talk "emotionally motivated" Thor; Guardians of the Galaxy crossover possible

Soaring anticipation is surrounding phase three's Avengers: Infinity War as it is highly speculated to bring together more heroes than what has been featured in any Marvel films. And although plot details are still under wraps, directors Joe and Anthony Russo spawned rumors that Chris Pratt's Star-Lord and Chris Hemsworth's Thor could appear in the first film.

Captain America: Civil War is set to hit theaters soon, and during a press event for the film, directors Joe and Anthony Russo named the stars they are excited to work on. However, as reported by Comic Book, neither of the actors mentioned by the Russos made an appearance in the Captain America film.

Speaking about Infinity War films, Anthony Russo said that they have been big fans of James Gunn's work with Guardians of the Galaxy. He also commended Chris Pratt's performance as Star-Lord. "[Joe Russo and I] are both big fans of what James Gunn has done. Star-Lord is a fantastic character and Chris Pratt is an awesome performer so you'd be very excited," Anthony Russo said.

On the other hand, Joe Russo said that he is excited for the events that will take place in Thor: Ragnarok and noted that Hemsworth's Mjolnir wielding hero would be in a very "interesting place" in the beginning of Infinity War.

"I'm excited to work with Thor. They're doing some really interesting stuff with Ragnarok and where he's gonna be at the beginning of Infinity War is gonna be a very interesting place and I think very profound. I think he's gonna have a real emotional motivation after that." Joe Russo said.

Although both directors' statements do not reveal much about the plot, Screen Rant reported that Thor might become a different man after the events of Thor: Ragnarok. It is speculated that he could become "unworthy" of the Mjolnir which will cause for Jane Foster to become the next female Thor, or he could suffer a major loss in the film which will greatly affect him.

According to Movie News Guide, it is also possible that a Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers cross over during the Infinity War. Addressing the question why the Guardians did not appear in the Captain America: Civil War, director James Gunn simply stated that it is because the Guardians live in a different galaxy.

Thus, the rumor mill suggested that Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, and Rocket Raccoon could appear in the upcoming Infinity War films as the Avengers could use the extra help that they could give. However, although rumors are plentiful for the Infinity War films, they must be treated with a grain of salt until official details are announced.

Avengers: infinity War Part 1 is the next project in line for Anthony and Joe Russo. It is written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and is currently slated to hit theaters worldwide on May 04, 2018.
