Apart from his appearance in the first two DCEU films, many are wondering whether Superman will be back for Man of Steel 2. Although nothing has been confirmed yet, Director Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill expressed their interest in making the film.
Snyder said that they would love to make the sequel if a good script is developed for the sequel. "I think if we could get a good script it would be great to have a standalone Superman movie. I think that would be fun to do." Snyder said. As reported by Screen Crush, he also added that part of the reason they haven't announced Man of Steel 2 is to support the events in the recently released Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Cavill also expressed his interest in returning for the sequel. The actor stated that they could negotiate a sequel with the studio if the films work well in the box office, and added that timing will also be an essential part. "It's about finding the time really. It's something I would be very keen to do. " Cavill stated.
As reported by Hindustan Times, producer Charles Roven stated that although they are considering Man of Steel 2, it might not see the light of day anytime soon due to the other films that have been scheduled to be released by Warner Bros.
Meanwhile, in the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice art book, Snyder said that he previously had ideas for a Man of Steel 2 movie which became a springboard for BvS. According to Cosmic Book News, one of his ideas for Man of Steel 2's ending was a crate of Kryptonite be delivered to the Wayne Manor.
While the idea did not happen for Man of Steel 2, it certainly paved the way for both superheroes to have their match in the big screen. Moreover, Snyder also added that they eyed on Bryan Cranston to play the role of a bald and older Lex Luthor before a younger version of the villain landed to Jesse Eisenberg.
As of now, it is unclear whether Man of Steel 2 will ever see the light of day, but if the box office performance of its predecessor is any indication of its chances of being developed, then the project definitely has a shot. Cavill's Superman is expected to appear in the upcoming Justice League films, and rumored to make an appearance in Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman solo film.
